The security and management of mobile devices and applications is a critical issue in the context of IT security and data protection, particularly in light of the upcoming GDPR. Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM) offer various approaches to addressing this. Two perspectives are particularly relevant here:
The security and protection of company and customer data should be enhanced or ensured through the use of appropriate solutions.
The privacy of users and employees must be protected, especially when it comes to personal devices or company equipment that can be used for personal purposes.
Mobile Device Management
Mobile Device Management (MDM) enables the comprehensive management of mobile devices; its main functions include activating and locking devices, rolling out services and applications, and configuring or setting security settings.
Mobile Application Management
Mobile Application Management (MAM), on the other hand (or in addition), focuses on mobile applications and the data associated with them. This allows for the controlled exchange of business data between mobile apps, with the ability to restrict or block it as needed.
Encapsulating apps in containers can make a significant contribution. This allows IT to maintain complete control over corporate data, while personal data such as texts and images remain separate and inaccessible to administrators. In the event of a lost device or other incident, this data remains exclusively encrypted and thus inaccessible on the device.
The most appropriate and feasible method of securing mobile devices and data should be considered and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
